2. eBay had a gross merchandise value of $73.9 billion in 2022
eBay sellers sold more than $70 billion worth of merchandise in 2022.
In fact, according to the company’s financial report, eBay’s gross merchandise value (GMV) for 2022 was $73.9 billion.
This is 15% less than 2021’s GMV when you look at the numbers on an on-reported basis and 11% on an FX-Neutral basis.
$35.91 billion (48.59%) of eBay’s GMV came from the United States while $37.99 billion (51.41%) came from international regions.
The company experienced an average drop of 5.23% in GMV quarter over quarter until Quarter 4, where they experienced an increase in GMV by 2.85%.

3. eBay sellers generated $4.6 billion in sales of used and refurbished products in 2022
eBay plays an important role in preventing products, especially tech products, from ending up in landfills.
In 2022 alone, eBay sales amounted to $4.6 billion in sales by selling used and refurbished products.
By eBay’s calculations, this is equal to the prevention of 1.6 metric tons of carbon emissions from reaching the atmosphere.
It’s also equivalent to 73,000 metric tons of waste, all of which did not end up in landfills.

4. eBay had 132 million active buyers by the end of 2022, a loss of 8% year over year
eBay’s financial report included data on the marketplace’s numbers for active buyers throughout 2022.
It also included the number of active buyers the platform had by the end of 2021, which was 143 million.
eBay had 132 million active buyers by the end of 2022, which means the platform experienced an 8% drop in active buyers year over year.
The marketplace experienced an average loss of 2.01% in active buyers quarter over quarter.

According to data published by Statista, eBay has a market share of 3.5% in the United States based on a list of the top ecommerce retailers in the country.
This puts it in fourth place behind these retailers:
- Amazon – Has a market share of 37.8% in the United States.
- Walmart – 6.3%.
- Apple – 3.9%.

eBay’s market capitalization is $23.3 billion, according to data published by Statista.
This puts them in the sixth position on the list of leading large cap ecommerce retailers located around the world.
Amazon ranks first with a market capitalization of $1.08 trillion.

7. eBay receives 702.5 million visits per month on average
Similarweb’s data on eBay reveals the amount of traffic the site receives on a monthly basis on average.
This number amounts to 702.5 million visits per month.
Users spend an average of six minutes and 58 seconds on the site and visit 6.91 pages per visit.
The site’s bounce rate is 36.92%.
Walmart’s traffic amounts to 382 million visits per month on average, according to Similarweb. This means eBay is still one of the web’s favorite online marketplaces.
Their biggest competitor is Amazon, who receives over 2 billion visits per month consistently.
8. 65% eBay’s traffic comes from the United States, and 58% of that traffic occurs on mobile devices

10. eBay ranks #9 in the Shopping category in the App Store
Apple doesn’t list download metrics on the App Store, so we need to use other metrics to determine the popularity of the eBay app as far as iOS devices go.
The first clue is eBay’s placement, both in its niche-specific category Shopping as well as the entire App Store as a whole.
eBay ranks ninth in the Shopping category of the App Store, though this placement is subject to change. Its biggest competitors, Amazon and Walmart, rank third and fifth respectively.
eBay users have given the app a rating of 4.8 stars, according to 3.9 million reviews.
The app ranks 84th in the store’s complete list of top free apps. Amazon and Walmart rank 25th and 34th.
Again, the App Store updates its data frequently, so these numbers are subject to change.

11. The eBay app received 2.1 million downloads in April of 2023
According to Statista’s data on eBay, the eBay app received 2.1 million downloads in April of 2023.
The site’s data also revealed that global downloads peaked in January of 2021 when downloads totaled 3.4 million.
In August of 2022, 818,000 downloads came from iOS devices while 513,000 downloads came from Android devices.

The survey consisted of 33,009 respondents from 40 countries.
27% of shoppers made their purchases at Amazon while 17% made them at Alibaba or AliExpress, both of whom are owned by Alibaba.

We discovered cables to the best-selling items on the marketplace, according to data on eBay listings and more.
There were more than 2.1 million listings for cables on the marketplace at the time we conducted our research.

The seller has a positive feedback rating of 99.5% and has sold more than 38.8 million items, primarily CDs and DVDs, though the shop is also dabbling in electronic sales these days.
This shop comes in second based on the amount of feedback eBay stores receive on a monthly basis.
This version of the list puts them behind worldofbooks08 (now worldofbooksltd), who have over 10.56 million feedback ratings and a 99.3 million positive feedback rating.
musicMagpie’s one-month feedback ratings amounted to 89,170 whereas worldofbooks08’s was 91,150.
