1. Etsy generated more than $2.5 billion in revenue in 2022

In Etsy’s annual report to shareholders for 2022, which they published in April of 2023, the company stated that its total revenue for 2022 was $2,566,111,000, a 10.18% increase from 2021’s $2,329,114,000.

They go on to explain that over $1.4 billion, or 55.71%, of that revenue came from the United States alone while over $343 million, or 13.4% came from the United Kingdom.

The remaining $792 million in revenue came from a variety of different regions.

Furthermore, Etsy stated that $1.9 billion, or 74.47%, of that revenue came from the marketplace aspect of its companies while $655 million, or 25.53%, came from the company’s services.

Cost of revenue for the year ending 2022 was $744,592,000, bringing Etsy’s total profit for the year to $1,821,519,000.

It’s important to note that Etsy is now the parent company of online marketplaces Reverb, Depop and Elo7, and they’ve included revenue from these companies in their financial report.

Therefore, it’s hard to tell how much of that $2.5 billion in revenue is Etsy revenue.

2. Etsy is home to 7.5 million active sellers and 95.1 million active buyers

In Etsy’s annual report to shareholders for 2022, the company stated that the platform hosts 7.5 million active sellers.

There are also 95.1 million active Etsy buyers on the platform.

However, it should be noted that Etsy’s subsidiaries are also represented in these numbers.

These are Reverb, Depop and Elo7, who receive the following amounts in traffic on a monthly basis on average:

According to Etsy’s annual report, consolidated Etsy gross merchandise sales amounted to $13.3 billion in 2022.

$11.8 billion of those sales were generated by Etsy sellers through the standalone Etsy marketplace alone.

Etsy explained how this is the highest number of customers they’ve reactivated in a single year and that it’s a 24% increase from the previous year.
