However…

  • The best time to post on LinkedIn varies depending on the day of the week, type of content, business niche, goals, and other factors.
  • The best way to find your personal best time to post on LinkedIn is to look at your analytics to find out when your audience is most active, and when your posts perform best

Is there really a best time to post on LinkedIn?

Timing is as important on LinkedIn as it is on any other social media platform.

It’s not enough to just create a great piece of content. If you don’t publish it at a time when your target audience is likely to notice and engage with it, it’s still not going to perform as well as it should.

However, the truth is that there’s no ‘universal’ best time to post on LinkedIn that will work for everyone. Ultimately, it’ll depend on factors like your target audience, business niche, goals, etc.

We’ll share some tips to help you find your personal best time to post later. But first, we’re going to look at what studies say the overall peak engagement times are on LinkedIn so you can use them as a jumping-off point.

What’s the best time to post on LinkedIn?

According to our analysis of the latest data from five leading studies:

  • The best time to post on LinkedIn is during work hours (9 AM – 5 PM) on business days (Monday to Friday).
  • If you want to get even more specific, then 10 AM to 12 PM seems to be a particularly good time to post.

This is based on a cross-analysis of original research by CoSchedule, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, SocialPilot, and HubSpot (see the table below for a comparison of their findings).

CoSchedule10 AM
Hootsuite1 PM
Sprout Social10 AM – 12 PM
SocialPilot10 AM – 12 PM
HubSpot9 AM – 12 PM

As you can see, the findings of all five of these studies unanimously agreed that the best time to post on LinkedIn falls within traditional business hours. They also found that after-work hours were the worst times to post on LinkedIn.

And of course, that makes textbook sense.

After all, LinkedIn is unique amongst other social media platforms in that it was designed for the business community and caters almost exclusively to working professionals. So naturally, LinkedIn users are going to be more inclined to use it during business hours.

This makes it very different from social networks like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, where peak usage times are more likely to fall during after-work hours and weekends.

What’s the best day to post on LinkedIn?

Unsurprisingly, our analysis of the latest data also found that:

  • Weekdays (Monday to Friday) are the best days to post on LinkedIn
  • Mid-week days (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) see particularly high engagement

Again, there was pretty much unanimous agreement on this across all the studies we analyzed.

And again, the reason for this is clear: LinkedIn caters to working professionals, so people are more likely to use it during the working week. Over the weekend, usage and engagement tend to drop.

The reason mid-week days tend to be a better time to post than Mondays and Fridays may be because generally, people are at their most productive mid-week and therefore more engaged.

Best times to post on LinkedIn by day

The best time to post on LinkedIn can also vary depending on the day of the week. For example, peak engagement times on Mondays may be different than on Fridays.

CoSchedule and Hootsuite both gathered data to figure out the best times to post on each day of the week. The table below illustrates their findings.

Tuesday10 AM10 AM
Wednesday3 PM12 PM
Thursday10 AM10 AM
Friday10 AM3 PM
Saturday12 PM1 PM
Sunday8 AM10 AM

Interestingly, both studies found that 10 AM was the sweet spot on most days, but with a few notable exceptions.

In particular, it may be better to wait to post your content until early afternoon on Wednesdays as posts see more engagement later in the day. This may have something to do with the ‘midweek slump’—people often feel less productive in the middle of the week and therefore may be less likely to engage with content on LinkedIn earlier in the day.

The same holds true for Saturdays. Both studies found that on Saturdays, engagement doesn’t peak until around noon, probably because many people tend to wake up later on the weekend.

How to find your best time to post on LinkedIn: 5 tips

So, 10 AM – 12 PM on weekdays seems to be a generally good time to post on LinkedIn, but as we discussed earlier, that doesn’t mean it’s the best time for you to post.

Your audience is unique, so your best time to post content on LinkedIn may be completely different than someone else’s. Here are some tips to help you hone in on your personal best time to post.

Find out when your audience is online

LinkedIn’s content recommendation system prioritizes recency. In other words, you’re more likely to see content that has very recently been published in your LinkedIn feed.

Naturally, then, it’s a good idea to post your content when the bulk of your audience is online (or about to go online).

And the best way to figure out when your audience is online is to look at your LinkedIn analytics.

First, log in to LinkedIn and click the Me icon at the top of the page. Then, click Manage > Posts & Activity. From here, you can dig into your analytics for any post and see lots of useful data about your followers’ activity patterns.

For example, you can see the ‘top demographics of unique viewers’ to see where in the world most of your LinkedIn audience is based.

Once you know where they’re based, you can start posting your content at peak times during their local time zones to stand the best chance of reaching as many people as possible.

Use a tool with best time to post suggestions

Unfortunately, while LinkedIn’s native analytics tool can give you a lot of useful information about your audience and content performance, it doesn’t outright tell you your best time to post.

However, there are lots of third-party analytics tools that can. For example, Sendible can algorithmically determine your best time to post on LinkedIn (as well as other social media sites) based on your historical data.

Here’s a screenshot from our Sendible account:

I’d recommend choosing a longer time frame for this data. Sendible will look at things like impressions, engagement rates, etc. to calculate when your posts are most likely to perform best.

Copy your competitors

If you’re short on historical data, another way to get an idea of when your best time to post might be is to look at when your competitors are posting.

Find out who the biggest influencers/accounts in your particular niche are on LinkedIn, then review their posts to see if they tend to post on specific times/days.

The chances are that these are going to be good times for you to post too.

Post around breaks in the workday

As we discussed earlier, because LinkedIn is a professional network, its users are most active during business hours—but most people won’t browse social media networks while they’re busy doing actual work.

So, why not experiment with posting your content around breaks in your target audience’s workday? For example, during lunchtime or afternoon break (12-1 PM), during the morning commute (8-9 AM), etc.

You might find that your LinkedIn engagement increases during these times, but you’ll need to dig into your analytics to know for sure.

Keep experimenting with different times

Even if you think you’ve found your best time to post on LinkedIn already, it’s important to keep experimenting with different times.

For example, you might have found that your posts tend to perform best at around 5 PM so far—but what if you’ve never tried posting at 5 AM?

Can you really be sure that your posts won’t perform better than expected in the early morning hours if you’ve never published one at that time? Of course not.

I recommend following the 80/20 rule: Post 80% of your LinkedIn content at the times you think are best based on the data you have so far, and post the other 20% at other times you want to experiment with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before we wrap up, here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about the best time to post content on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn doesn’t publicly share data about the platform’s usage, but our best guess is that LinkedIn is most active during business hours (9 AM to 5 PM) from Monday to Friday. This is based on the results of five leading studies on the best times to post on LinkedIn.

The overall worst hour to post on LinkedIn is 3 AM, according to data from CoSchedule. Generally, though, any time from 10 PM to 4 AM is a bad time to post. Weekends are the worst days to post on LinkedIn.

There’s no definitive answer to this question as it’ll depend on your goals, resources, target audience, and lots of other factors. That said, a good rule of thumb is to post 1-3 times per week.

The ‘golden hour’ refers to the first 60 minutes after you post content to LinkedIn.

The reason it’s called the golden hour is because how your content performs during that initial period determines whether or not LinkedIn moves it into lots of other people’s feeds. If it gets lots of engagement during the golden hour, it will likely perform very well. If not, it will likely flop.

Final thoughts

That concludes our data-driven guide to the best time to post on LinkedIn. Let’s quickly recap what we’ve covered.

Statistically, the best time to share your posts on LinkedIn is between 10 AM and 12 PM from Tuesday to Thursday in your target audience’s local time zone. But more generally, you can’t go wrong posting at any time during business hours on weekdays

You’ll get better results if you work out your own personal best time to post, though. And the best way to do that is to experiment and look at your analytics to uncover insights about who your target audience is and when your posts tend to perform best.
