It’s just a matter of mapping existing content with schema markup after that. This includes your title, author, date, category and featured image. You’ll configure these with a few simple clicks. You can even add custom fields.

As I stated before, this plugin is mainly designed for reviews. It allows you to create review cards for posts and even comes with over a dozen templates for these cards, giving you plenty of options to choose from no matter your theme.
You also have multiple options when it comes to how your ratings are displayed. Your options are stars, points, percentages, thumbs up/down and animated circles.
Price: Plans start at $77 for a single site license. This license comes with one year of support and updates, at which point you’ll need to purchase an additional year for a smaller fee.

3. WP Product Review

As soon as you activate the plugin, it’ll read your pages and posts and generate schema markup from titles, descriptions, product information and more. It’ll even generate rich snippets for recipes and reviews, though you’ll need to upgrade to the premium version to gain access to the complete list of rich snippets for some schema types.
As far as quality assurance goes, the plugin will check for minimum and maximum image dimensions and aspect ratios, missing and required images, duplicate meta tags, and incorrect or missing HTML markup and PHP modules.
The premium version offers an extensive list of features, many of which simply extend on the features of the free version.

Here’s what this one offers:

- No coding required
- Easy setup and configuration
This is the simplest rich snippets plugin on this list, but it still supports every major schema type. This includes the ones you’re used to, such as reviews, products and recipes.
However, you’ll be delighted to know it also supports articles, events, people, software applications and videos.
Unfortunately, the plugin doesn’t add schema markup to your site automatically. You’ll be required to do this manually with the meta box it adds to the WordPress editor.
You’re encouraged to purchase Schema Pro if you want automation. In fact, more than half of the Rich Snippets dashboard is dedicated to advertising the premium plugin.
As for the free version, the way it works is simple. You’ll start by navigating to the edit page of the page or post you want to add markup to. From there, you’ll use the meta box to choose the schema type you’d like to add to that page.
The settings in the meta box will switch over to the different fields you can add markup for based on the schema type you chose. Unfortunately, there’s no automation here, either. Each field is filled with dummy text you’re required to edit manually.
The plugin does integrate with WooCommerce, but it recommends not using it as it’ll duplicate the schema markup WooCommerce has by default.

Which rich snippets plugins are best for sites solely focused on reviews?
For those who run sites that publish reviews frequently or those who want to better optimize reviews for SEO, then WP Review Pro and WP Product Review are your best option. Their features are relatively similar, the only main difference is the price.
Need a rich snippets plugin with a variety of supported schema types?
Even though All in One Schema Rich Snippets is a free rich snippets plugins, it still offers 8 schema types which is ideal if you want a free rich snippets plugin.
Do you need a rich snippets plugin that has automation?
When it comes to automation, Schema Pro may be your best option even it’s not the most cost-effective solution. It doesn’t offer a free version, so all of its features are at your disposal as soon as you purchase and activate it.
The other plugins start with free versions that offer limited features. This either comes in the form of incomplete schema markup that requires the premium version to complete or auto-generated markup you aren’t able to edit with the free version.
The only plugin that doesn’t offer some form of automation is All in One Schema Rich Snippets. This plugin is best suited for sites that only need markup on a few select pages.

The last factor to consider is price. The most cost-effective solutions are All in One Schema Rich Snippets, WPSSO Core and WP Review Pro. All in One Schema Rich Snippets, while tedious, is entirely free to use.
WPSSO Core offers quite a lot of features in its free version. If you need more than what the free version has to offer, all you’ll need to do is pay a single moderate fee for a license and copy of the premium version. Support and updates are free forever after that.
WP Review Pro works in a similar way, only you’ll be required to pay a fee for every additional year of support and updates you need. Fortunately, this is available at a smaller fee than what you’ll pay for the license to begin with.

What is schema markup?
In case you aren’t familiar with microdata, it’s a form of structured data that informs search engines what certain page elements are. This includes a page’s title, author and URL.
You’re probably more familiar with its sister, metadata, a form of structured data that tells search engines what a page is about. Meta descriptions are a common example.
Schema, or structured data as Google now refer to it, is a form of microdata. Its markup is designed to generate rich snippets for your content, which are designed to enhance the way your content appears in search engines.
It was formed out of a collaboration between Google, Bing, Yahoo! and Yandex. The result was a new form of search-related markup known as schema.
Its primary purpose is to provide context to your pages by letting search engines know exactly what’s on them. Schema is then turned into rich snippets – this is what we see in search results.
What are rich snippets?
While schema is the code you add to your website (or use one of the above plugins to add for you), rich snippets are the visual element that you see in Google Search results.
The most common examples are review stars but there are a lot more. For example, recipes will add review stars a lot with cooking times, and calories, etc.
However, there are some rich snippets that go largely unnoticed but still provide an important role. One example is article schema – this type of schema helps Google to understand your content better.

How will schema markup and rich snippets benefit your website?
Unfortunately, rich snippets have not been shown to improve search engine rankings in any meaningful way, at least not directly. They have, however, shown to increase click-through rates.

Let’s go over what rich snippets are before we discuss how.
You’ve probably come across rich snippets at some point in your time as an internet user. The most recognizable snippets are the ones that appear in descriptions for reviews and recipes.
You can see how the search results in the image above don’t appear in the same way general results do. Each recipe may feature a rating, the amount of time it takes to prepare and even the number of calories per serving.
These are just a few examples of the types of rich snippets you can add to your site, but how do they improve your rankings by increasing your click-through rates?
Search engines, especially Google, are on a never-ending quest to change their algorithms in an attempt to connect users with the highest-quality and most relevant pieces of content available based on the keywords they search for.
Rich snippets don’t just provide context to search engines. They provide context to users. When it comes to recipes, you can see the highest-rated and easiest recipes to prepare directly within the search results.
This data makes web pages more appealing, encouraging users to visit them more than they usually would. Because a large amount of page visits tells Google your page is something users are highly interested in viewing, the higher click-through rates can help your pages rank more efficiently.
“Schema markup” isn’t just a fancy term for rich snippets. It’s HTML markup you insert into your content to generate rich snippets.

How can I test that my schema markup is correct?
Use Google’s Structured Data testing tool – this will highlight any errors that need to be fixed.
And, Google Search Console will sometimes alert you to any errors.
Rich snippets aren’t displaying – what should I do?
This is typically for two reasons:
- Google hasn’t indexed the changes to your content – In this case, using the fetch tool in Google Search Console will trigger a recrawl. Alternatively, tweeting a post is sometimes enough for this to happen.
- There’s an error with your schema markup – Run your URL through Google’s testing tool to find out if this is the case. You’ll then have an idea of what’s wrong and how to fix it.
