Iconosquare Review

Welcome to our Iconosquare review.

Are you working hard publishing post after post on social media wondering when those engagements are supposed to start coming in?

What you need is in-depth data on your profile’s performance and latest posts.

Iconosquare is one of the best social media analytics tools we’ve tested, but it offers much more than just analytics.

In this Iconosquare review, we’ll show you all the ways you can use it to grow your social media accounts and implement your social strategy.

What is Iconosquare?

Iconosquare is a social media analytics app first and foremost, but it’s so much more than that; it can act as your social media management tool.

It includes tools for social media publishing and monitoring, the latter of which blends social listening and engagement.

You can use Iconosquare as a web or mobile app, and they also offer several free tools for Instagram.

Here’s an overview of the best features Iconosquare has to offer:

    • Social Media Calendar – Contains over 250 hashtag holidays for the current year
    • Audits for Instagram and Facebook

In this Iconosquare review we will look at how each feature performs within the Iconosquare app itself.

What features does Iconosquare offer?

We’re going to over each part of Iconosquare’s platform:

  • Dashboard
  • Analytics
  • Publishing
  • Monitoring

We’ll start at the top with the Iconosquare user interface.

Dashboard

Iconosquare has an intuitive UI presented in a simple layout. A menu featuring links to every section of the interface sits on the left while a smaller, right-hand menu contains quick-use buttons for adding and switching between additional profiles.

01 dashboard - main dashboard

The majority of the interface is saved for whatever section you have open.

The actual “Dashboard” section of the interface is completely customizable. You can create multiple dashboards to display any sort of data you like in any way you like.

02 dashboard - custom

It’s similar to custom dashboards in Google Analytics if you’ve ever used them and allows you to prioritize the data you see by metrics you feel are most valuable.

You can even filter dashboards by custom date ranges.

Best of all, you can include data from multiple social media platforms in one dashboard.

Analytics

The analytics section is divided up into multiple mini sections for different sets of data. It starts with an Overview section, but the actual data and mini sections you see differ depending on which profile you have open.

03 analytics - overview

The Overview section is similar to how other social media management apps handle the analytics aspect of their apps. It’s designed to give you a snapshot of how your posts and profiles/pages performed within a given timeframe.

Iconosquare goes much further than this with its mini sections. For Facebook, you can take a deep dive into your data for engagement, audience growth, your publishing habits (total posts, links posted, images posted, videos posted, etc.), reach, impressions, video analytics and page performance.

Page performance is different from the Overview section in that it provides data on how various sections of your page have performed within a given timeframe. These metrics include call-to-action activity, page views, page likes vs unlikes, and view distribution for page tabs (Home, Photos, Videos, About, Reviews, etc.).

Overall, the data within Iconosquare can help you pinpoint where your marketing campaigns struggle most when it comes to promoting them on social media.

Publishing

Iconosquare may specialize in analytics, but their publishing tool is extremely well designed and contains all of the features you need to manage your social media content schedule.

When you create a new post in Iconosquare, the app asks you to choose which type of post you’d like to create. The options are based on the primary platform you want to publish the post to.

For Facebook, your post type options are Status, Image, Video, Link, Story or Reel.

04 publishing - facebook post

The example you see in the image above is the UI you’ll see when you create a Facebook status post.

You can add text and emojis. There’s also options to import content from your saved hashtag and caption groups, if you’ve set a few up.

You can also add a location to status posts.

Before you schedule your post for publication, you can use the Crosspost feature to create drafts for other social media platforms.

05 publishing - crosspost

Unfortunately, you can only crosspost to platforms that can use the exact post type you originally chose.

So, because I originally chose to create a status post for Facebook, which Iconosquare does not allow you to add an image to, I can’t use this draft to Crosspost to Instagram.

I’d have to start with an image post for Facebook, which means when I add my article link to my caption, it won’t generate a link post for Facebook.

The Crosspost feature can save a lot of time, but it’d be a lot more efficient if you could optimize each draft for each individual platform however you want.

Iconosquare is a great choice for collaborating on social media posts.

So, when you go to schedule your new post, you can add notes to it, save it as a draft or submit it for approval.

06 publishing - schedule new post

One annoying aspect of creating a new post I noticed is how the app detects any period and letter combination as a link.

I had already added a link to my caption, as you can see in the image above. But I wanted to edit the caption before continuing, and I accidentally backspaced at the start of a sentence, creating a phrase that read “platforms. It” instead of “platforms. It”.

This caused Iconosquare’s publish tool to delete the previous link I entered and replace it with “platforms. It”, which isn’t even a link, just a typo.

07 publishing - link error

The only way to fix the error is to cut out the actual link and paste it back in. I imagine this glitch will be fixed at some point.

When you have posts scheduled, you can use the scheduler’s calendar to see what posts you have scheduled for the day, week or month.

08 publishing - calendar view

Unfortunately, upcoming posts can only be viewed on a per-platform basis. This makes it a little tedious but it’s not a massive issue.

For faster scheduling, switch over to the Time Slots tab where you can designate specific days and times of the week you’d like posts to auto schedule on.

09 publishing - new time slot

You’ll find posts you need to approve are located in the Collaboration section of the publishing tool.

Last are Iconosquare’s library features, which are divided into two separate sections. The Media Library handles images and videos.

You can build collections of captions and hashtags you commonly use in the Saved Captions and Lists section.

Ask AI

Iconosquare has a generative AI tool that allows you to generate captions based on prompts or a URL.

The captions it creates are actually pretty impressive, and there’s even a “Regenerate” button you can click as many times as you want until the tool generates one you like.

10 ask ai - regenerate

The caption above was generated from a URL.

This is the form you’ll need to fill out if you want to generate a caption based on a prompt:

11 ask ai - prompt

Not pictured are the following form options:

  • Number of characters
  • Options to enable or disable the following parameters:
    • Take into account previous captions
    • Use your activity description
    • Without hashtags
    • Without emojis

When you create your own caption, you can use the AI tool to enhance it, translate it, transform your tone of voice or add hashtags.

12 ask ai - edit caption

AI can even generate ideas for you based on a few prompts, including your social media activity and target audience.

13 ask ai - ideas

Overall, the ideas are pretty good, and you can generate new ones as you need to.

14 ask ai - ideas generated

Conversations and listening

Iconosquare’s Conversations section makes it easy to reply to comments and mentions on Facebook and Instagram. Twitter replies and mentions are not included in this feature, however.

You can also use the Listening section to see where you stand in your industry in terms of social media performance.

15 conversation - industry benchmark

It’s a great way to help you align your social media marketing strategy with whatever is working for others in your industry on Facebook and Instagram. Twitter is also not included with this feature.

You can also discover untapped marketing strategies, such as paid reach on Facebook.

The Listening section also lets you track competitors.

Lastly, you can set up multiple custom feeds for each platform containing posts from specific accounts you choose.

Iconosquare pricing

Iconosquare has 3 pricing plans: Single, Teams and Custom. The only difference between the three are the number of users and amount of data retention they support.

These are the base tiers available for each plan:

  • Single – $59/month – one user & 12 months of data retention
  • Teams – $99/month – ten user & 24 months of data retention
  • Custom – contact – unlimited user & unlimited months of data retention

They each include five social media profiles and the following features:

  • Analytics & reporting for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and more
  • Publishing to major social media platforms as well as cross posting
  • Automated and custom reports
  • Conversation tracking and management
  • Content approval workflow
  • AI copy assistant

Each Iconosquare plan comes with a 14-day free trial, and you can save 22% with annual billing.

Additional social media profiles are available at different pricing tiers for each plan, though the Single plan only supports a maximum of 10 profiles.

The Teams plan can support as many as 50 social media profiles while the Custom plan can support more than 50.

Iconosquare review: pros and cons

Iconosquare’s focus is social media analytics, so it should come as no surprise when I say that its analytics tool is its best feature.

It allows you to view detailed stats on your performance. By selecting a specific date range and compiling facts and details on posts you’ve published within that range, you can use these stats to pinpoint exactly what’s worked for you and which strategies led to fewer engagements and growth.

This is especially true when you include the Content section. Whenever you have a post that does really well or very poorly, all you have to do is open this section and compare its stats with your other posts to see exactly what’s different.

The publishing is also incredibly intuitive and makes it easy to schedule posts to multiple platforms using a draft from a single platform.

Plus, the Industry Benchmark feature, which is unique to Iconosquare, is one of the best ways to see where your profiles stand with other profiles in your industry. It doesn’t just list rankings or likes either. It gets very specific on the types of content you publish, how often you publish, how many people complete your stories and more.

And Iconosquare’s offering includes TikTok analytics which is a rare feature to find amongst social media tools.

Iconosquare, like all software isn’t perfect. A few disadvantages I experienced while testing the app:

Not including the custom dashboards you can create, the entire interface is separated into different profiles. This is a small grievance, but it would be nice to be able to manage all of your social media comments and custom feeds on one screen.

This was mostly apparent in the Calendar View tool. When you view your calendar, you aren’t able to view every post you have scheduled across all platforms. You have to open each profile’s calendar individually.

Iconosquare is mostly optimized for Facebook and Instagram. They offer fewer features for other platforms.

For X/Twitter users, these drawbacks go as far as not having a proper way to manage replies and mentions within the UI. However, this restriction is now shared amongst a lot of other tools now because of Elon’s dramatic price hikes on their API.

That said, if you are mostly focused on Instagram and Facebook, this won’t be an issue for you.

Lastly, Iconosquare’s listening tool has no keyword monitoring. You can only create feeds for your profiles or competitor profiles.

Iconosquare review: final thoughts

Our Iconosquare review has covered the main features it has to offer, as well as Iconosquare pricing.

Iconosquare excels at analytics and is the best social media analytics tool we’ve tested so far. There’s so much data to unpack, proof that Iconosquare goes much further in helping you understand your performance on the web’s top three social media platforms than similar tools out there.

Iconosquare also has a great publishing tool that has a simple interface and can create drafts for other platforms. You can even manage Facebook and Instagram comments.

If you find the app’s publishing tool to be too simple for your needs, consider keeping Iconosquare but adding SocialBee to your toolkit. It’s fairly cheap and allows you to create automatic content queues and import content to share from multiple sources. It also supports more platforms.

If Iconosquare’s listening and inbox tools aren’t for you and you can do without the extra analytics, try Sendible instead. It has much more robust publishing, inbox and monitoring tools.

Each Iconosquare plan has a free trial for 14-days if you want to see if this tool is the right fit for you and your team.
