5. Bluesky received 3.9 million downloads in 2023
According to a report published by Statista and made in cooperation with AppMagic, the Bluesky app received 3,888,363 downloads in 2023.
2,455,225 of those downloads, or 63.14%, came from iOS devices while 1,433,138, or 36.86%, came from Android.
The app received the highest number of downloads in October of 2023 when downloads totaled 610,739 across Android and iOS devices.
The app launched in the App Store for iOS devices in February of 2023 and on Google Play for Android devices in April of that same year.

6. Bluesky’s user base grew by 1.5 million the week it opened to the public
Before Bluesky opened its doors to the public in early 2024, it was only available through invite only. It still managed to grow its user base to 3 million users during its first year on app stores in spite of this restriction.
But when Bluesky finally made it possible to create an account without an invite, its user base jumped by 850,000 after the first day, pushing its total above 4 million users.
According to a post published by Bluesky themselves, 8.5 new accounts were being created every second on average during this time.
There were also 2 million new posts published to the platform during the first 24 hours of the app being open to everyone.

“Misleading” was another noteworthy category among the reports.
According to Bluesky, 5.6% of the app’s active users in 2023, or 76,699 accounts, created reports while 3.4% of active users, or 45,861 accounts, received them.
When Bluesky agrees with a report, they respond in one of four ways: sending a warning email, labeling a piece of content, taking down a piece of content or taking down the account altogether.
In 2023, Bluesky’s moderation team took down 4,667 accounts and 1,817 pieces of content.

It has vowed to award $10,000 in grants to development projects that use its technology.
$3,000 of that $10,000 has been awarded to projects called the AT Protocol Python SDK, the AT Protocol Dart SDK and SkyFeed.
